Q. What is Big Give Houston?

Big Give Houston is a 24-hour online crowdfunding campaign powered by the community. For one day per year, we encourages all nonprofits across the Houston-area to join forces and raise funds as one community. During Big Give Houston, all are encouraged to be a philanthropist and support local nonprofits.

Q. When is Big Give Houston?

Big Give Houston will take place on November 27th from midnight to 11:59 p.m.

Q. When will the 2018 Big Give Houston application be available?

Applications for the 2018 event will launch on September 4. Applications for participation will close on October 30.

Q. If I need help, whom can I contact?

Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card or debit card and access to the internet can participate. While offline donations will be accepted by individual participating nonprofit organizations, Big Give Houston is a day focused on online giving during November 27.

Q. What forms of donations are accepted?

MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express donations received through the website.

Q. Is there a minimum gift?

Yes, a minimum donation amount is $20.

Q. How will the donations be reported on my credit card statement?

Your credit card statement will read: [Organization’s Legal Name]

Q. May I pay a pledge with my Giving Day gift?

Big Give Houston is designed to generate new support, not to pay off existing pledges.

Q. May I designate how a nonprofit uses my gift?

Big Give Houston gifts are considered unrestricted donations ultimately granted out to a nonprofit as you specify, and no goods or services may be received in exchange for donations.

Q. How much of the donation will go to the nonprofit?

All donations will be paid to your chosen charity, net of credit card transaction and processing costs – a total of approximately 5.7% will be deducted. Donors will be given the opportunity to cover these fees.

Q. Can I make my donation over the phone?

Smartphones that allow you to make a credit card donation online enable you to contribute in this way.

Q. Is my donation tax-deductible? How do I get a copy of my receipt?

Donations through the Big Give Houston online portal to charitable nonprofit organizations are tax-deductible and cannot be refunded. Donations will be received and receipted by GiveGab via e-mail at the time of the donation. The e-mailed receipt will include the organization’s legal name and EIN, along with the donation amount and date.

Q. When will a charity receive my donation?

Each donation made online through the Big Give Houston website to a participating nonprofit will be disbursed directly from GiveGab via direct deposit to the nonprofit within 36-48 hours.

Q. If I have questions while making my donation, who can I contact?

You can use the chat bubble feature located at the bottom right corner of the website or contact CustomerSuccess@givegab.com.

Q. May I use my Big Give Houston donation to buy event tickets, museum memberships, or other things that provide me a benefit?

No, donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor, advisor or other disqualified person – including dinner tickets, membership fees, golf fees, admission tickets or other gifts.

All donations made through BigGiveHouston.org are final, irrevocable and non-refundable.

Nonprofits may not promise or provide good or services in exchange for your making a donation.


Q. What organizations are eligible for Big Give Houston?

Any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is in good standing with the IRS and in the GuideStar Database can participate in Big Give Houston. We welcome organizations within Harris and surrounding counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker, and Wharton.

Q. What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the website?

If you can't find your favorite nonprofit on our website, they may not be participating currently. However, we encourage you to share Big Give Houston with them and extend an invitation to participate.

Q. What is the registration fee?

For 2018, the Big Give Houston team is asking each nonprofit to pay a one-time $25 fee. This fee will help ensure that each participating nonprofit is eagerly engaged, as well as help support the sustainability of this event for years to come.

Q. When will my nonprofit receive our donations?

Each donation made online through the Big Give Houston website to a participating nonprofit will be disbursed directly from GiveGab via Stripe through direct deposit to the nonprofit within 36-48 hours. Stripe is rated as a PCI Level 1 Payment Processor by Visa, which means Stripe meets the most stringent level of security guidelines. Q. Do I have access to track my donors after Big Give Houston?

Yes, your organization will receive all of your donor and donation information from your giving day, in real-time, whenever you'd like. Q. Will there be one deposit into my organization’s bank account or multiple?

Your organization will receive nightly deposits usually within 24-48 hours of receiving a donation through biggivehouston.org. Weekends and holidays can delay this process.

Q. Can I change our monetary goal that’s listed on my profile?

You can update your organization’s goals at any time, including throughout November 27. During the actual giving day, site caching is turned on, so while you may not see an immediate update of any changes made to your profile, just reach out to the GiveGab Customer Success team (either using the little blue chat bubble or CustomerSuccess@givegab.com) for more assistance.
